Some Expository Genre Types
Recount—text that presents facts and events in temporal order.
Report—text that systematically presents facts and generalizations about some subject.
Comparison/Contrast—text that describes multiple entities and situations in terms of shared and contrasting attributes.
Account—text that explains phenomena or facts in terms of causes and consequences.
Illustration—text that presents a specific case as an exemplar for a general principle.
Survey—text that combines and unifies information from multiple sources to present a coherent, factual account, possibly including multiple accounts or explanations.
